Saudi Arabia’s Hajj Boost for Travel and Hospitality Sectors

DUBAI: Three years after the COVID-19 pandemic forced Saudi Arabia to impose strict travel restrictions, this year’s Hajj has given a palpable boost to the regional economy, with an estimated 1.6 million Muslims from around the world converging on Islam’s holiest sites. The annual pilgrimage began on Sunday with the ritual of Tawaf Al-Qudum, when pilgrims dressed in white robes walk in a circle around the Kaaba, the stone structure at the center of Masjid Al-Haram, or the Grand Mosque, the most important mosque and holiest site in Islam.

TotalEnergies’ First Solar Power Plant in Saudi Arabia Fully Financed

RIYADH: Sustainable energy provision in Saudi Arabia is set to grow after French energy giant TotalEnergies achieved financial closure for its first solar power plant in the Kingdom.  According to a press statement, the 119 megawatts solar plant will be developed by a consortium of TotalEnergies, Japan’s Toyota Tsusho and Saudi Arabia’s Altaaqa Renewable Energy.  The group secured a power purchase agreement for the project with Riyadh-based Saudi Power Procurement Co. in an auction held between 2021 and 2022.

Saudi-US Trade Surges by 39% in 2022: Report

RIYADH: Oil and fertilizer exports helped Saudi Arabia record a 39 percent surge in trade with the US in 2022, demonstrating strengthening ties between the two nations.   According to a report by the US-Saudi Business Council, the total trade value reached SR130 billion ($34.7 billion), fueled by both an uptick in Saudi oil exports and a record-breaking non-oil trade. Notably, non-oil exports from Saudi Arabia to the US in 2022 touched SR10.1 billion, marking a 10 percent increase from the previous year.

Thai Companies Eye $36 Million Investment in Saudi Arabia to Strengthen Business Ties

RIYADH: Thai companies are ready to invest a combined $36 million in Saudi Arabia, a senior figure from the Asian country’s business community has revealed as relations between the two nations continue to develop. Sanan Angubolkul, chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, revealed the figure during a meeting of the Saudi-Thai Business Forum in Riyadh, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
