Inter Players Join Italy for Nations League Duty

ROME: Inter Milan's contingent of players arrived for Italy duty on Monday ahead of their Nations League semi-final against Spain two days after their Champions League final defeat. Roberto Mancini's side take on Spain in Enschede, the Netherlands on Thursday. The five Inter players called up -- Nicolo Barella, Alessandro Bastoni, Federico Dimarco, Francesco Acerbi and Matteo Darmian -- arrived at the Italian team's national training centre at Coverciano, near Florence, after losing the Champions League final to Manchester City in Istanbul.

ISTANBUL: A global audience of 450 million viewers is expected to watch at least some part of the Champions League final between Manchester City and Inter Milan on Saturday, UEFA has estimated. The live, minute-by-minute average audience — a longtime gold standard in the broadcasting industry — of about 150 million is expected for the game in Istanbul that is being shown in more than 200 territories worldwide, UEFA said. It includes verified and estimated in-home TV viewers, fans streaming the game plus those watching in bars, restaurants and fan parks.

ISTANBUL: Pep Guardiola insisted Friday his Manchester City side are primed to put their defeat in the 2021 Champions League final behind them for good as they seek to win the trophy when they take on Inter Milan in Istanbul on Saturday. City were beaten 1-0 by Chelsea in Porto in the club’s only previous appearance to date in the final of Europe’s elite club competition. Veteran striker Ibrahimovic revealed his decision to quit the game during an on-pitch ceremony following AC Milan’s 3-1 win over Verona. “It’s the moment to say goodbye to football, not just to you,” said Ibrahimovic on the San Siro pitch. “There are too many emotions for me right now. Forza Milan and goodbye.”

France Recalls Nkunku and Dembélé for Euro Qualifiers

PARIS: Christopher Nkunku and Ousmane Dembélé were recalled Wednesday to France’s national team. The two strikers were included in coach Didier Deschamps’ squad for upcoming European Championship qualifiers against Gibraltar and Greece after missing Les Bleus’ previous games due to injury. France top the Group B standings in qualifying after back-to-back wins against the Netherlands and Ireland. The two-time world champions take on Gibraltar in Portugal on June 16, then host Greece three days later at the Stade de France.
