TORONTO: Nick Taylor became the first Canadian in 69 years to win his national open, holing a 72-foot eagle putt on the fourth playoff hole to beat Tommy Fleetwood in the RBC Canadian Open on Sunday. Taylor tossed his putter into the air and jumped into the arms of his caddie after the longest made putt of his PGA Tour career, and fellow Canadian players Mike Weir, Corey Conners and Adam Hadwin were among those who ran out to the green to congratulate him.

“Iga Swiatek Wins 3rd French Open Title and 4th Slam by Defeating Karolina Muchova”

PARIS: Iga Swiatek suddenly seemed lost in the French Open final. Her strokes were awry. Her confidence was gone. Her big early lead vanished, too. She kept looking up into the stands, seeking guidance from her coach and her sports psychologist. So much was amiss right up until she was two games from defeat against unseeded Karolina Muchova on Saturday. And then, when she needed to most, Swiatek transformed back into, well, Swiatek. The No. 1 player in women’s tennis for more than a year. The defending champion at Roland Garros. Aggressive. Decisive. Full of clarity.

However, the money supply for the week ending June 1 dropped 0.29 percent compared to $2.62 billion in the week ending June 25.

Oil Prices Head for Second Weekly Loss on Demand Concerns

SINGAPORE: Oil prices looked set to post their second straight weekly loss as they continued to fall on Friday over demand concerns and skepticism that the US and Iran could strike a nuclear deal, according to Reuters. Brent crude futures dropped 35 cents, or 0.5 percent, to $75.61 a barrel by 7:04 a.m. Saudi time, while the US West Texas Intermediate crude futures eased 35 cents, or 0.5 percent, to $70.94.

French Open 2023: Swiatek and Sabalenka on Track for Final Showdown

PARIS: If Iga Swiatek meets Aryna Sabalenka for the French Open championship, more than the trophy would be at stake. The No. 1 ranking would be, too. But there’s work to be done for both players first — getting to the final. In Thursday’s semifinals, No. 2 Sabalenka of Belarus will play unseeded Karolina Muchova of the Czech Republic, before No. 1 Swiatek of Poland faces No. 14 Beatriz Haddad Maia of Brazil. Sabalenka is unbeaten in Grand Slam action in 2023; she won her first major title at the Australian Open in January.

Novak Djokovic dominates tiebreaker at French Open, set to face No. 1 Alcaraz

PARIS: Novak Djokovic, in his words, felt “quite sluggish, quite slow” for nearly two full sets against Karen Khachanov in the French Open quarterfinals Tuesday. Afterward, Djokovic called it his worst stretch of the tournament, a fair assessment. He dropped the opening set, something he hadn’t done at Roland Garros this year. As the second went to a tiebreaker in Court Philippe Chatrier, he knew it was vital to step up his game, bring forth his best.
