Gulf Arab energy companies are turning to tech start-ups to help reduce emissions while continuing to produce oil. Carbon capture has been touted as a solution to global warming, but with few projects in operation, it currently lacks the scale needed to make a difference. However, major players such as Saudi Aramco and the United Arab Emirates’ ADNOC say this is about to change. The UAE is hosting climate negotiations this year with a focus on cutting emissions. Start-ups showcased their advances in carbon capture and storage at a recent climate tech conference in Abu Dhabi, while others presented plans for direct air capture.
