Juventus Fined, Avoids Points Deduction in Plea Bargain

Date:

Juventus has reached a settlement with Italy’s football authorities regarding payments to players and the club’s accounts. The club will not face an additional Serie A points deduction for falsely claiming that players had given up wages during the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, Juventus has agreed to pay a fine of over 700,000 euros, and seven management figures have been ordered to pay fines. The club has accepted the settlement in the best interest of its shareholders and stakeholders, and it will allow them to focus on planning for next season. While the settlement allows Juventus to qualify for next season’s Europa Conference League, they may still face sanctions from UEFA in a separate probe. Former chairman Andrea Agnelli is excluded from the plea agreement and may face trial along with 11 other people and the club itself in separate criminal proceedings.
