Erdogan and Kilicdaroglu’s Final Push to Rally Voters Before Run-Off

Date:

Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Kemal Kilicdaroglu have both made their final campaign pushes ahead of Sunday’s presidential election run-off in Turkey. The two candidates are seeking to attract the eight million voters who did not participate in the first round. Erdogan leads Kilicdaroglu, according to the May 14 vote, and his AK Party and its allies secured a parliamentary majority. Erdogan visited the Adnan Menderes mausoleum in Istanbul on Saturday to rally his conservative base. Kilicdaroglu has focused on more immediate issues, including expelling Syrian refugees, in an attempt to win over nationalist voters. Recent opinion polls suggest a close race.
