Bolt seeks significant role in athletics

Date:

Usain Bolt is eager to contribute to the revival of track and field, which he believes has experienced a decline since his retirement six years ago. The Jamaican sprinter, who dominated men’s sprinting for nearly a decade after the 2008 Beijing Olympics, has reached out to World Athletics to express his interest in making a bigger impact in sports. Bolt acknowledged that his personality was a vital ingredient in the success of track and field during his era, but he sees signs that athletes like US sprinter Noah Lyles might be starting to fill the charisma gap. Bolt hopes to play a part in helping the sport grow and believes that young athletes like Oblique Seville and Ackeem Blake could motivate others to train harder and dedicate themselves. Bolt will be keeping a close eye on compatriot Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce at the World Championships in August, as she seeks a record-extending sixth world 100m title.
