Russia’s Wagner Group Plans to Provide Hezbollah with Air Defense System
The United States has obtained intelligence suggesting that Russia’s Wagner mercenary group intends to supply the Iranian-backed Lebanese militia, Hezbollah, with an air defense system, according to The Wall Street Journal. The system in question is the Pantsir-S1, also known as the SA-22, which utilizes anti-aircraft missiles and air-defense guns to intercept aircraft.
Wagner Group, which was initially funded by the Russian state and has since been firmly brought under Kremlin control following a failed mutiny by its former leader, Yevgeny Prigozhin, in June, did not respond to Reuters’ request for comment.
