UN Tells Russia to Leave Ukraine: Vote Results

The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has once again expressed its strong condemnation of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, calling for an immediate withdrawal of Moscow forces and an end to the fighting. On Thursday, 141 countries voted in favor of the resolution, which calls for a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in Ukraine.

The countries that voted in favor of the resolution include Afghanistan, Albania, Andorra, Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bahamas, Bahrain, Barbados, Belgium, Belize, Benin, Bhutan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Botswana, Brazil, Brunei, Bulgaria, Cabo Verde, Cambodia, Canada, Chad, Chile, Colombia, Comoros, Costa Rica, Cote d’Ivoire, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Denmark, Djibouti, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Egypt, Estonia, Fiji, Finland, France, The Gambia, Georgia, Germany, Ghana, Greece, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Hungary, Iceland, Indonesia, Iraq, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Jordan, Kenya, Kiribati, Kuwait, Latvia, Lesotho, Liberia, Libya, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Madagascar, Malawi, Malaysia, Maldives, Malta, Marshall Islands, Mauritania, Mauritius, Mexico, Micronesia, Monaco, Montenegro, Morocco, Myanmar , Nauru , Nepal , Netherlands , New Zealand , Niger , Nigeria , North Macedonia , Norway , Oman , Palau , Panama , Papua New Guinea , Paraguay , Peru , Philippines , Poland , Portugal , Qatar , Republic of Korea (South Korea), Republic of Moldova , Romania , Rwanda , Saint Kitts and Nevis , Saint Lucia , Saint Vincent and the Grenadines , Samoa , San Marino , Sao Tome , Saudi Arabia , Serbia , Seychelles , Sierra Leone , Singapore , Slovakia , Slovenia , Solomon Islands , Somalia , South Sudan , Spain , Suriname , Sweden , Switzerland , Thailand , East Timor , Tonga , Trinidad and Tobago , Tunisia , Tuvalu , Turkey and Ukraine.

Meanwhile seven countries voted against the resolution: Belarus, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea), Eritrea Mali Nicaragua Russia and Syria. 32 countries abstained from voting including Algeria Angola Armenia Bangladesh Bolivia Burundi Central African Republic China Republic of Congo Cuba El Salvador Ethiopia Gabon Guinea India Iran Kazakhstan Kyrgyzstan Laos Mongolia Mozambique Namibia Pakistan South Africa Sri Lanka Sudan Tajikistan Togo Uganda Uzbekistan and Vietnam.

After the UNGA adopted the resolution Russian Ambassador to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzya reacted. Six countries voted with Russia against the resolution. The UNGA’s call for an end to the conflict in Ukraine is a reminder of the need for all parties to work together to find a peaceful solution.
