Date:

UAE, EU, and UN Condemn Israel’s Airstrike on Gaza School

The recent airstrike on Al-Tabin school in eastern Gaza by Israel has sparked condemnation from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), European Union (EU), and United Nations (UN) officials. The attack resulted in the death of almost 100 civilians and left many more injured. The UAE Foreign Ministry expressed its strong opposition to attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure, emphasizing the urgent need for immediate and safe delivery of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people.

This devastating airstrike marks the 14th school hit in Gaza since July 6, highlighting the alarming escalation of violence in the region. The UAE Foreign Ministry reiterated its call for an immediate ceasefire to prevent further casualties, emphasizing the importance of protecting civilians and civilian institutions in accordance with international law.

In addition to condemning the attack, the UAE urged the international community to intensify efforts to prevent further escalation in the occupied Palestinian territories and to pursue all possible avenues towards a comprehensive and just peace. The UAE’s stance reflects its commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region.

Meanwhile, an independent UN-appointed expert, Francesca Albanese, the UN special rapporteur on the rights situation in the Palestinian territories, accused Israel of committing “genocide” in its Gaza war after the airstrike. Albanese stated that Israel is systematically targeting Palestinians, one neighborhood, hospital, school, refugee camp, and safe zone at a time. Her strong words highlight the severity of the situation and the urgent need for international intervention.

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, also expressed his horror at the images from the shelter school in Gaza that was hit by an Israeli strike. He condemned the targeting of schools and emphasized that there is no justification for such massacres. Borrell called for a ceasefire to stop the killing of civilians and secure the release of prisoners. The EU’s condemnation adds to the growing international pressure on Israel to halt its military actions.

Philippe Lazzarini, commissioner-general of the UN Relief Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), described the situation in Gaza as a day of horror. He expressed his dismay at the bombing of another school and the reports of dozens of dead Palestinians, including women, children, and the elderly. Lazzarini stressed that schools, facilities, and civilian infrastructure should not be targeted, and all parties involved in the conflict must protect them. He emphasized the need to end these atrocities and prevent them from becoming normalized.

The international community’s condemnation of Israel’s airstrike on Al-Tabin school in Gaza demonstrates the growing concern over the escalating violence and civilian casualties. The UAE, EU, and UN are calling for an immediate ceasefire and the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure. The world cannot stand idly by while innocent lives are lost and communities are destroyed. It is crucial for all parties involved to prioritize peace, dialogue, and respect for international law to bring an end to the conflict and ensure the well-being of the Palestinian people.
