Turkiye Launches Air Strikes on Terrorist Targets in Iraq and Syria
Turkiye has conducted overnight air strikes on nearly 30 “terrorist targets” in northern Iraq and Syria. This action comes after nine Turkish soldiers were killed in a military base in Iraq. The defense ministry released a statement confirming the air operations, which targeted regions including Metina, Hakurk, Gara, and Qandil.
The Turkish soldiers lost their lives during clashes that occurred following an attempted intrusion at the base near the northern Iraqi city of Metina. The ministry revised the initial toll of five casualties to nine. In response to this attack, Turkiye launched strikes on 29 locations, including caves, bunkers, shelters, and oil installations. These targets belonged to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and the YPG (People’s Protection Units), a Syrian Kurdish militia that is a key part of the US-allied forces in the fight against Daesh.
