Turkey’s 2023 Election Run-Off Results: Follow the Vote

Date:

The presidential election run-off in Turkey did not result in either candidate winning over 50 percent of the vote on May 14, leading to an unprecedented second round of voting. The results of the current vote are expected to be announced earlier than last time, as there are only two options for voters to choose from. Polls opened at 8am and closed at 5pm on Sunday. The first round of voting saw President Recep Tayyip Erdogan take 49.52 percent of the vote, with his main challenger Kemal Kilicdaroglu receiving 44.88 percent. A third candidate, Sinan Ogan, took 5.17 percent of the vote and endorsed Erdogan for the second round. Erdogan is seeking a third consecutive presidential term, while Kilicdaroglu promises to bring Turkey back to a “strong parliamentary system”.
