“Saudi Arabia and Slovenia Foster Trade Relations at WEF Event”

RIYADH: Trade and economic ties between Saudi Arabia and Slovenia are expected to improve following a meeting between the Kingdoms’ Minister of Economy and Planning Faisal Alibrahim and Slovenia’s Minister of Digital Transformation Emilija Stojmenova Duh.  The ministers held talks on the sidelines of the recent World Economic Forum summit in Tianjin, China. The pair discussed potential areas of cooperation between both countries and analyzed ways to address issues of common interest, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

Sound Energy secures $237m financing for Moroccan gas project in the UK

RIYADH: A natural gas project in east Morocco will soon be completed thanks to a new finance push from the largest bank in the North African country. UK-based Sound Energy has received a conditional offer from Attijariwafa Bank to obtain funding amounting to 2.3 billion Moroccan dirhams ($237 million) for the Tendrara-based project’s second phase, according to a statement. The funding will be allocated for completing drilling, operating wells, and building a pipeline to transport natural gas to the state’s National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water.

“Saudi Arabia’s Sustainable Agricultural Challenge Aims to Boost Global Crop Yield”

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has gathered momentum in its commitment to sustainability by identifying and supporting top innovators of climate-smart agriculture solutions.  Called the Smarter Climate Farmers Challenge, the initiative was launched by the Kingdom in partnership with Uplink, the open innovation platform of the World Economic Forum.  Saudi Minister of Economy and Planning Faisal Al-Ibrahim announced the challenge during the WEF’s 14th annual meeting of the New Champions in Tianjin, China. 

Egypt boosts energy transition with updated climate commitments

RIYADH: Egypt aims to advance its target of generating 42 percent of its energy through renewable sources to 2030 from 2035 as the North African nation submitted updated climate commitments as per the Paris Agreement on Monday.   In its updated Nationally Determined Contribution document, Egypt noted that the country needs to obtain grants and soft financing worth €500 million ($548 million) as a contribution to achieving the revised targets. 

King Fahd Airport: 250k Passengers in 7 Days

RIYADH: King Fahd International Airport witnessed an 11 percent rise in passenger numbers throughout the seven days of the Eid Al-Adha celebration compared to the equivalent period in 2022. Dammam Airports Co., which operates the transport hub, revealed 250,000 people passed through the facility from June 19 to June 2. The airport also witnessed over 2,000 flights during this time, reflecting a 15 percent increase compared to the previous year.

Italy vows to eradicate racism and anti-Semitism in football arenas

ROME: Italy signed on Tuesday a letter of intent aimed at eradicating anti-Semitism from soccer stadiums across the country. Instances of racism and anti-Semitism are commonplace in Italian stadiums, with fans regularly booing or shouting abuse at Black players, using the word “Jew” as an insult and displaying Nazi or fascist symbols.

Israel’s Tech Industry Continues to Struggle in 2023, According to State Agency

JERUSALEM: A slowdown in Israel’s technology sector has worsened in 2023, exacerbated by political turmoil, and the country may be detaching from broader trends that point to a global recovery, the state-backed Israel Innovation Authority said on Monday. High-tech has for a decade been the fastest growing sector in Israel and crucial for economic growth, accounting for 14 percent of jobs and almost a fifth of GDP — not to mention innovations coming out of Tel Aviv adopted around the world in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and other fields.
