LONDON: Newcastle United chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan said on Friday he wants the Magpies to become the “number one” club, but made it clear that the ongoing development of the team will adhere to the sport’s financial fair-play rules. During an interview published on the club’s social media, the Saudi Public Investment Fund supremo said the board of directors now expects the club to be playing at the very top level of European football on a regular basis, and will build a “squad of stars.”

DUBAI: The first two days of the AJP Tour Dubai International Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2023 – Gi have been dominated by Sharjah Self-Defense Sports Club at Al-Nasr Club. Day one saw action in the infants and junior divisions, with Sharjah securing the top spot, followed by Palms Sports Academy in second place and ADMA Academy third. On day two, in the teens, youth and masters’ categories, Sharjah again took the lead, with Commando Group and A.F.N.T. in second and third respectively.

RIYADH: Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, the Saudi minister of sports and president of the Union of Arab National Olympic Committees, attended the opening ceremony of the Special Olympics World Games in Berlin on Saturday — on behalf of KIng Salman — at the city’s Olympic Stadium. German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier officially inaugurated the event, which began with a procession of the participating countries, including Saudi Arabia, followed by a speech delivered by Dr. Timothy Shriver, chairman of the Special Olympics International Board of Directors.
