INDIANAPOLIS: Katie Ledecky joined an elite club Tuesday night, earning her sixth trip to the world championships with a dominating victory in the 800-meter freestyle at the US nationals. Ledecky was under her own world-record pace for much of the race before settling for the victory in 8 minutes, 7.07 seconds — her third-fastest time in the grueling event, which she has dominated over her long career with the 30 fastest times in history.

ACWA Power gets $100m credit from Chinese bank to expand operations

RIYADH: In an effort to boost its operations, Saudi energy firm ACWA Power secured $100 million in a revolving credit facility from China Construction Bank. Engaged in collaboration with the Chinese bank since 2016, ACWA Power signed the three-year revolver agreement to scale up its power generation and water desalination portfolio in the Middle East, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.

Prince Fahd bin Jalawi elected president of Asian Triathlon Federation

The 31st General Assembly of the Asian Triathlon Confederation unanimously elected Prince Fahd bin Jalawi bin Abdulaziz bin Musaed as president for the next four years, the second Saudi sports figure to head the continental Olympic sports federation. The announcement came during the meeting of the General Assembly, which was held on June 23 in Tokyo in the presence of Eng. Ali Maqbool, president of the Saudi Triathlon Federation, and Joud Jamjoom, his deputy, along with 34 heads from Asia Triathlon’s national federations.

LONDON: Western allies on Wednesday promised to make Russia pay for invading Ukraine as governments and private investors met to fund the country’s reconstruction from the ravages of war. RIYADH: Reflecting the growing popularity of Islamic financing, gross assets of the Shariah-compliant banks operating in the UAE grew to 650 billion dirhams ($177 billion) by the end of the first quarter of 2023, a year-over-year increase of 7.31 percent compared to 605.7 billion dirhams in the same period last year, according to figures by the Central Bank of the UAE.
