Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq opposes budget changes

Date:

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has expressed its opposition to proposed changes in the Iraqi federal budget that could infringe on the rights of the Kurdish people. The KRG’s stance presents a challenge to Prime Minister Mohammed Al-Sudani, whose government is attempting to adopt a three-year budget. The KRG has stated that it will only abide by decisions made within the agreement signed with Al-Sudani’s government, which refers to a deal between the two governments outlining the resumption of oil flows from the northern Iraqi region via Turkey. The KRG’s opposition to the proposed changes is based on their belief that they are unconstitutional and inconsistent with the agreement signed between the regional government and the federal government.
