ICC Officials Visit Pakistan for World Cup Participation Security

Date:

Pakistan has announced that it will not participate in the Cricket World Cup in India after India declined to tour Pakistan for the Asia Cup. The International Cricket Council (ICC) officials are set to travel to Pakistan to secure the country’s participation in the World Cup, which has been in doubt due to political reasons. Bilateral cricket between India and Pakistan has been affected by their soured relations over the past decade, and the two countries only play each other in multi-team events at neutral venues. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has declined to tour Pakistan for the Asia Cup and wants the entire tournament to be held in a neutral country, prompting a tit-for-tat response from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The PCB has said that there is a “very real possibility” of boycotting the World Cup in India if its proposal to stage at least some Asia Cup matches on home soil is not accepted. ICC officials are currently in Pakistan to discuss the matter with PCB officials. The dates and venues for the World Cup, which will be played in October-November, will be announced after the World Test Championship (WTC) final, which begins on June 7 in London.
