The recent aggression against Gaza has sparked outrage and frustration within the international community. Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit emphasized the severity of the situation, stating that it marks a significant turning point in the region’s history. Speaking at the 10th ministerial meeting of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum in Beijing, Aboul Gheit highlighted the urgent need for action to halt the ongoing massacre in Gaza.

China’s President Xi Jinping also addressed the forum, underscoring the importance of supporting the just cause of the Palestinian people and their right to self-determination. Aboul Gheit called on China, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, to play a more active role in promoting a two-state solution for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He stressed the importance of establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital along the borders of June 4, 1967.

The Arab League and its member states are committed to enhancing regional stability by resolving existing crises peacefully and fostering balanced relations with neighboring countries. Aboul Gheit reiterated the league’s support for China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, emphasizing the importance of upholding the one-China principle. He expressed a strong desire to strengthen the strategic partnership between Arab countries and China for mutual benefit and cooperation on regional and international issues.

Celebrating the 20th anniversary of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum, Aboul Gheit praised the forum’s success in promoting multilateral cooperation across various fields. He highlighted the significance of the first Arab-Chinese summit in Riyadh in 2022, which laid a solid foundation for future collaboration between the two sides. Moving forward, Aboul Gheit called for regular sessions of the Arab-China summit to monitor progress and further develop cooperation programs.

The Arab League chief commended China’s historical influence and achievements, expressing admiration for its renaissance and progress. He emphasized the importance of building a promising future for both Arab and Chinese societies through enhanced cooperation and political solutions to shared challenges. The forum serves as a vital platform for fostering dialogue and collaboration between Arab countries and China, ensuring continued development and mutual benefit.

As tensions continue to escalate in Gaza, it is imperative for the international community to take decisive action to end the violence and support a peaceful resolution to the conflict. The Arab League’s call for China’s involvement in promoting a two-state solution reflects a growing consensus on the need for a lasting and just settlement in the region. By working together and strengthening partnerships, Arab countries and China can contribute to regional stability and prosperity for all.
