Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi recently received phone calls from Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. These calls focused on strengthening bilateral relations, promoting regional stability, and addressing the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.

In the call with President Mohamud, President El-Sisi discussed ways to enhance cooperation and deepen coordination between Egypt and Somalia across various sectors. The two leaders also touched upon regional developments, emphasizing Egypt’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s security and stability.

President El-Sisi also spoke with Prime Minister Mitsotakis, who expressed Greece’s desire to enhance cooperation with Egypt following El-Sisi’s reelection. The Greek Prime Minister highlighted his country’s commitment to consulting with Egypt on developments in the Mediterranean and Middle East regions. President El-Sisi praised the strategic nature of Egypt-Greece relations and expressed Cairo’s interest in further promoting bilateral ties, as well as cooperation through the Trilateral Cooperation Mechanism with Cyprus.

The conversation between President El-Sisi and Prime Minister Mitsotakis also addressed the situation in the Gaza Strip. President El-Sisi reiterated the need for the international community to take action to end the suffering of the Palestinian people and alleviate the humanitarian crisis in the enclave. Both leaders agreed to continue consultations to encourage stability in the region.

In addition to these calls, President El-Sisi received a bipartisan US Congressional delegation led by Sen. Joni Ernst. The meeting, attended by Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, involved an open discussion on regional developments, particularly the situation in the Gaza Strip. President El-Sisi emphasized the importance of working towards a just and comprehensive settlement to the Palestinian issue, including the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. He also stressed the need for a ceasefire, protection of civilians, and the provision of humanitarian aid as central priorities.

President El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s strong opposition to any attempts to resolve the Palestinian cause through forced displacement. He also highlighted the critical importance of preventing the Gaza conflict from spreading to the wider region, warning of the severe consequences this would have on regional and international peace and security.

These phone calls and meetings demonstrate Egypt’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Somalia and Greece, as well as its active role in addressing regional challenges. President El-Sisi’s discussions on the Gaza Strip highlight Egypt’s dedication to finding a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue, while also emphasizing the need for immediate humanitarian assistance.

As Egypt continues to engage with regional and international partners, it remains committed to promoting stability, security, and cooperation in the Middle East. Through these diplomatic efforts, Egypt aims to contribute to the resolution of conflicts and the improvement of living conditions for people in the region.
