Egyptian Travel Blogger Trapped in Sudan Conflict

Date:

Ahmed El-Badawy, an Egyptian travel content creator, found himself stranded in a flat in Sudan’s capital, Khartoum, after fighting broke out between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). El-Badawy had planned to travel to the UNESCO world heritage site of Merowe to see the Nubian pyramids, but flights from Khartoum airport were halted due to the violence. Despite being trapped with little food or water, El-Badawy continued to post updates for his followers and said he would not have changed his decision to travel to Sudan. He chose Sudan as his 60th destination because he wanted to showcase daily life and the people of each country, especially in the Arab world, which is often covered by global media in terms of war and conflict rather than its rich history and diverse cultures. El-Badawy had planned to travel across Sudan to Eritrea by the end of April but is now waiting for the situation to calm down so he can leave the country.
