Bahrain Commits to Sustainable Development Goals at UN Forum

Bahrain is making significant strides in promoting peaceful coexistence, protecting individual rights, and achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), according to Noor Al-Khulaif, Bahrain’s Minister of Sustainable Development. Speaking at the UN’s High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, Al-Khulaif highlighted Bahrain’s commitment to fast-tracking efforts to achieve the SDGs under the leadership of King Hamad and Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa.

Bahrain takes pride in its success in becoming a global leader in addressing the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic without compromising its sustainable development agenda. The country implemented initiatives that played a vital role in tackling the global health crisis while maintaining its sustainable development goals.

One of Bahrain’s key achievements was the launch of the Economic Recovery Plan in October 2021. This plan, combined with the commitment to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2060, demonstrates Bahrain’s dedication to sustainable development. Additionally, the integration of sustainability goals into the government’s program for 2023 to 2026, digital transformation efforts, and the establishment of the Ministry of Sustainable Development in 2022 have all contributed to the successful development of a sustainable plan for economic recovery.

Al-Khulaif emphasized Bahrain’s support for international cooperation and partnerships as crucial elements in achieving the SDGs more quickly. International forums provide platforms for dialogue and consultation, enabling the building of global partnerships and the development of innovative solutions that are accessible to all.

The ongoing 2023 High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, with the theme “Accelerate recovery from COVID-19 and fully implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at all levels,” began on July 10 and will conclude on July 19. This forum serves as an opportunity for countries to share their experiences, challenges, and best practices in sustainable development.

Bahrain’s commitment to sustainable development aligns with the global efforts to address the pressing challenges of our time. The SDGs, adopted by all UN member states in 2015, provide a comprehensive framework to eradicate poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all. Bahrain’s dedication to achieving these goals demonstrates its commitment to creating a better future for its citizens and contributing to global sustainable development.

The establishment of the Ministry of Sustainable Development in 2022 reflects Bahrain’s recognition of the importance of integrating sustainability into all aspects of governance. This ministry plays a crucial role in coordinating efforts across different sectors to ensure that sustainable development is at the forefront of policymaking and implementation.

Bahrain’s focus on digital transformation is another key aspect of its sustainable development agenda. Embracing technology and innovation can accelerate progress towards the SDGs by improving efficiency, transparency, and accessibility. By leveraging digital solutions, Bahrain aims to enhance service delivery, promote e-governance, and empower its citizens to actively participate in decision-making processes.

As Bahrain continues its journey towards sustainable development, it recognizes the need for international cooperation and partnerships. The global challenges we face require collective action and shared responsibility. By collaborating with other nations and organizations, Bahrain can leverage resources, expertise, and knowledge to achieve its sustainable development goals more effectively.

In conclusion, Bahrain’s commitment to promoting peaceful coexistence, protecting individual rights, and achieving the SDGs is commendable. The country’s efforts to address the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic while maintaining its sustainable development agenda demonstrate its resilience and determination. Through initiatives such as the Economic Recovery Plan, commitment to net-zero carbon emissions, and digital transformation efforts, Bahrain is paving the way for a sustainable future. By actively participating in international forums and fostering partnerships, Bahrain aims to accelerate progress towards the SDGs and contribute to global sustainable development.
