Al-Ittihad triumphs as Al-Nassr and Ronaldo falter

Date:

Al-Ittihad have won the Roshn Saudi League for the first time since 2009, beating Al-Fayha 3-0 in the penultimate round of fixtures. Second-placed Al-Nassr drew 1-1 at Ettifaq, meaning that Al-Ittihad’s win secured them the title. Coach Nuno Santo and his team fought hard to overcome the challenge of Cristiano Ronaldo and Al-Nassr to lift the prize. Al-Ittihad knew that a win would secure their ninth title, and they got off to a great start with a goal from Ahmed Sharahili after just three minutes. Al-Nassr hit the post in the first half, but fell behind after Youssouf Niakate scored for Al-Ittihad. Romarinho then headed home from a free-kick to extend their lead. Al-Nassr scored a spectacular goal through Luiz Gustavo, but it was ruled out by VAR for offside. Al-Ittihad rarely looked like losing their two-goal lead and secured the title.
