“42% Increase in Passengers at Saudi Airports in First 4 Months of 2023”

The Saudi travel and tourism sector has experienced significant growth, leading to a strong rebound in air traffic during the first four months of 2023. The General Authority of Civil Aviation reported a 42 percent increase in the number of passengers compared to the same period last year, with passenger volume reaching 35.8 million. The Kingdom’s airports also saw a growth rate of 6.2 percent compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019. Domestic passenger numbers increased by 6.7 percent, while international flights saw a remarkable jump of 95.5 percent. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman announced the launch of a new airline, Riyadh Air, and a project to expand Al-Ahsa International Airport’s capacity by 250 percent. The Kingdom’s airports have also advanced in the rankings of the 50 best airports in the world, with King Fahd International Airport named the best regional airport in the Middle East for the second year in a row.
