Ukraine War Spills into Russia: The ‘Dead Zone’

A war correspondent covering the Russia-Ukraine conflict has reported that the enemy is turning border districts into a “dead zone”. Retired colonel Yuri Kotyonok, who has reported from almost every war zone in the former Soviet Union, stated that the districts belong to the western Russian region of Belgorod, which borders Ukraine. In recent months, the region has been shelled and attacked by drones hundreds of times, with 130 attacks in May alone. As a result, 32 people were killed and 157 wounded, with seven more killed since Thursday. Ukrainian battalions made up of fugitive Russian nationalists and former prisoners of war have launched their largest armed incursion in western Russia, attempting to seize Shebekino, a city of 40,000. While Kyiv did not comment on the raid, experts suggest that it is a warning shot and a preview of what is yet to come.
