VanVleet joins Houston; NBA free agency begins with few big names on the move

NEW YORK: Fred VanVleet bet on himself, and the Houston Rockets are the beneficiaries. On an opening night of free agency where most big names — Kyrie Irving, Draymond Green, Khris Middleton, Kyle Kuzma and more — stayed put, VanVleet is headed to a new home. He agreed to a three-year deal Friday with the Rockets that’ll pay him about $130 million, a person with knowledge of the negotiations told The Associated Press. ESPN first reported the agreement between VanVleet and the Rockets.

The England and Wales Cricket Board apologized “unreservedly” on Tuesday after the Independent Commission for Equity in Cricket released its evidence of racism, misogyny, and elitism being entrenched in the sport.

Smith, whose previous world record was broken by McKeown in March with a time of 2:03.14, showed again that her move to train with coach Bob Bowman — former mentor of Michael Phelps — — was paying off.

SAFF introduces innovative funding program for women’s football empowerment.

The Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) on Monday announced a funding initiative and support system for women’s football clubs.   This initiative is designed to “further enhance the rapidly growing women’s football leagues and the wider sport in Saudi Arabia, ensuring its sustainability and development for years to come,” a press release read.    SAFF’s funding program will provide vital financial assistance to the Saudi Premier League and Women's First Division clubs.

Yin Ruoning of China Wins Women’s PGA Championship

NEW YORK: China’s Yin Ruoning sank a 10-foot birdie putt on the final hole on Sunday to win the Women’s PGA Championship for her first major title. The 20-year-old from Shanghai fired a 4-under 67 to finish 72 holes at Baltusrol on 8-under 276 and defeat Japan’s Yuka Saso by one stroke. Yin took the $1.5 million top prize and became only the second woman from China to win a major title after Feng Shanshan, who captured the 2012 Women’s PGA crown.
