Israel Downs Drone Targeting Karish Gas Field | TOME

Date:

Israeli Military Intercepts Drone Launched from Lebanon

The Israeli military announced on Saturday that one of its missile ships had intercepted a drone that was launched from Lebanese territory towards Israel’s Karish gas field in the Eastern Mediterranean. The drone was flying over Israel’s economic waters when it was intercepted by the ship in cooperation with the Israeli Air Force. Although it is unclear whether the drone was armed or conducting reconnaissance, it is believed to be an intelligence drone.

Background: Israeli-Hezbollah Conflict

The Israeli forces have been engaged in near-daily clashes with Hezbollah since the Palestinian group’s attack on southern Israel on October 7, which sparked the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip. While Hezbollah has not claimed responsibility for the drone, its military media has previously released footage titled “In the Crossfire,” which reveals gas extraction coordinates on Israel’s coast. This indicates a previous dispute between Lebanon and Israel over gas extraction from disputed areas.

Israeli Retaliation and Hezbollah’s Response

In response to the drone incident, Israel targeted the outskirts of Jebbayn and Mays Al-Jabal with artillery, as well as the border village of Kfarkila, destroying two houses and injuring residents. Four missiles were fired towards Kiryat Shmona, and one missile was launched towards Arab Al-Aramsheh in western Galilee from Lebanon. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

Hezbollah retaliated by targeting “espionage equipment in the Maskaf Am site” and “Al-Jardah point with missile weapons.” They also launched an aerial attack using assault drones on the positions and bases of officers and soldiers from an armored force stationed north of the Yiftah Barracks. This attack was in response to the Israeli aggression on the town of Markaba, which resulted in the death of two Hezbollah fighters.

Tensions Escalate: Israeli Military Actions

The Israeli military took further actions to demonstrate its strength. Israeli military aircraft broke the sound barrier in two waves over Chouf, Iklim Al-Kharoub, Saida, Jezzine, and Beirut’s southern suburbs. Additionally, two explosive-laden drones exploded in Ramot Naftali in Upper Galilee.

Hezbollah’s Accusations Against the US

During the funeral of a Hezbollah member, Ali Fayyad, a member of Hezbollah’s parliamentary bloc, accused the US of being a “full partner in all the crimes committed against Lebanon and the Palestinians.” Fayyad criticized the US Congress for applauding Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and claimed that the US is complicit in the violence against Gaza and southern Lebanon. He emphasized that Hezbollah will continue to confront Israel until the aggression on Gaza ends and Gaza achieves its goals.

Conclusion: Israel’s Weakness and Hezbollah’s Strength

Fayyad declared that Israel is currently at its weakest point in history, while Hezbollah’s resistance is at its strongest. Despite the ongoing conflict and potential sacrifices, Hezbollah remains determined to confront Israel until Gaza’s goals are achieved. The interception of the drone and the subsequent retaliation highlight the escalating tensions between Israel and Hezbollah.

In conclusion, the interception of the drone launched from Lebanon towards Israel’s Karish gas field has further heightened tensions between Israel and Hezbollah. The ongoing conflict and retaliatory actions from both sides demonstrate the volatile situation in the region. As the situation continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how the conflict will be resolved and whether a lasting peace can be achieved.
