Egyptian Government Secures Discount Deals for Ramadan Food Supplies

As the holy month of Ramadan approaches, the Egyptian government is taking proactive measures to ensure the availability of essential food items at affordable prices. The Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade is working diligently to secure discount deals with major food producers and global suppliers for bulk orders.

One of the items on Cairo’s shopping list is yameesh, a variety of nuts imported from Syria and other Levant countries that are commonly used in Egyptian iftar dishes. Faten Mahrous, an official at the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade, emphasized the government’s efforts to search for local and global companies that can provide large quantities of various food items, especially Ramadan yameesh, at reduced prices.

In addition to nuts, the ministry is also focusing on ensuring an ample supply of meat and poultry products. The consumption rates of these goods tend to increase significantly during the holy month. The ministry is coordinating with the governorates to establish Hello Ramadan tents and exhibitions across all regions, where goods will be offered at lower than market rates.

To further support its efforts, the government has imported around 250,000 tonnes of raw sugar for government-linked entities. This sugar will be refined and made available at consumer outlets and branches of affiliated companies throughout the country, ensuring that it is sold at reduced prices. This initiative aims to bolster the strategic stock of sugar and meet the needs of citizens for an extended period.

The Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade is also planning to purchase large quantities of cooking oil to provide it at reduced prices. By offering all basic goods with a secure strategic stock, the government aims to ensure that citizens have access to essential items throughout Ramadan.

To increase the availability and supply of food products and goods, Ramadan exhibitions will be held in every governorate. These exhibitions will serve as platforms for showcasing a wide range of products, making them easily accessible to the public. Additionally, the government plans to deploy mobile vehicles loaded with food items and fresh and frozen meat products in areas where consumer outlets are not readily available.

Food industry expert, Jamal Fahmy, commended the government’s efforts to control prices and protect consumer rights. Regulatory campaigns have been intensified to confront any violations that may harm consumers. Judicial police vehicles will patrol the markets to ensure traders comply with the rules, and violators will be issued tickets. The government recognizes that citizens cannot bear any potential price increases during the holy month and is committed to maintaining affordability.

In conclusion, the Egyptian government is leaving no stone unturned in its quest to secure discount deals for Ramadan food supplies. By collaborating with local and global companies, establishing Ramadan tents and exhibitions, and implementing regulatory measures, the government aims to ensure that essential food items are readily available at reduced prices. These initiatives will alleviate the financial burden on citizens and allow them to observe Ramadan with ease and peace of mind.
