DEWA and Huawei enhance collaboration

Date:

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) CEO, Saeed Mohammed Al-Tayer, recently met with senior officials from Huawei in China to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in various sectors. The meeting resulted in the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Digital DEWA and Huawei, focusing on digital transformation, decarbonization, and the development of a future-oriented power communication network.

One of the key areas of cooperation discussed was energy storage. As the demand for electricity continues to grow, finding efficient ways to store energy is crucial. DEWA aims to work with Huawei to develop new technologies and solutions that enhance efficiency and sustainability in the electricity and water sectors. This includes reducing carbon emissions from the electricity production process.

The partnership between DEWA and Huawei is also aligned with the UAE’s environmental goals. The country is upscaling its climate ambition and will be hosting COP28 in Expo City Dubai in November. COP28 marks the conclusion of the first Global Stocktake, which assesses the progress made in achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement. By collaborating with Huawei, DEWA aims to contribute to these goals and showcase its commitment to sustainability.

Al-Tayer highlighted the success of the partnership in digital transformation, particularly in areas such as innovation, disruptive technologies, smart grids, automation, cloud platforms, artificial intelligence, data security, and big data management. The collaboration between DEWA and Huawei has resulted in significant advancements in these areas, paving the way for a more efficient and sustainable energy sector.

During his visit, Al-Tayer also met with Guo Ping, chairman of Huawei’s Supervisory Board, to discuss the successful opening of the world’s largest green data center. Located at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum Solar Park in Dubai, the data center was built by Moro Data Hub, a subsidiary of Digital DEWA, in collaboration with Huawei. The center has been recognized by Guinness World Records for its size and environmental sustainability.

The partnership between DEWA and Huawei is a testament to the commitment of both organizations to drive innovation and sustainability in the energy sector. By leveraging Huawei’s expertise in digital technologies and DEWA’s experience in the energy industry, the two organizations can work together to develop solutions that address the challenges of the future.

The focus on digital transformation is particularly important as the world becomes increasingly interconnected. Smart grids, cloud computing, and electric vehicle charging stations are just a few examples of how technology can revolutionize the energy sector. By embracing these technologies, DEWA aims to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance the overall customer experience.

In conclusion, the meeting between DEWA and Huawei marks an important milestone in their partnership. By signing the memorandum of understanding, the two organizations have reaffirmed their commitment to collaboration and innovation. As the UAE prepares to host COP28 and showcase its environmental goals, this partnership will play a crucial role in driving sustainable development in the energy sector. With a focus on digital transformation, energy storage, and decarbonization, DEWA and Huawei are well-positioned to lead the way towards a more sustainable future.
