The Archdiocesan Sanctuary, which manages the monument, cooperated with the Brazilian FA and the Observatory of Racial Discrimination in Football to turn off the lights. Vinicius Jr later tweeted his appreciation for the action, which had received over half a million likes within hours. The Brazilian government and football community united to condemn the racist acts, and Real Madrid filed a complaint with the Spanish State Attorney General’s Office.
