3 UAE Armed Forces Members, 1 Bahraini Officer Killed in Somalia | TOME

At least five people were killed in an apparent terrorist attack in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia. The United Arab Emirates’ defense ministry confirmed that three of the victims were Emirati soldiers and one was a Bahraini officer. The fifth fatality was believed to be a Somali officer.

Al-Shabab, an extremist group linked to Al-Qaeda, claimed responsibility for the attack through a statement on its radio channel. They also claimed to have killed 17 soldiers in the incident. The Erdogan Hospital in Mogadishu received about 10 injured Somali soldiers as a result of the attack.

Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud expressed his condolences to the UAE following the incident. Al-Shabab has been waging an insurgency against the Somali government since 2006 in an attempt to establish its own rule.
