A 14-year-old girl named Sherana Daniels has passed away due to injuries sustained during a fire at a dormitory in Mahdia, Guyana. The fire occurred on May 21 and resulted in the deaths of 18 female students and one five-year-old boy, with most victims between the ages of 12 and 18. Prior to Daniels’s death, 19 people had died in the disaster. Over two dozen students were also injured, with one 13-year-old girl receiving specialised treatment at a hospital in New York. The fire was started by a teenage student who was angry her phone had been confiscated. The accused is being held in a juvenile detention centre as she awaits trial. The incident has raised concerns about safety procedures at the school.
