Fb chief government Mark Zuckerberg concluded his 2019 “personal obstacle” on Monday, his edition of a New Year’s resolution. From a report:
This year he pledged to “host a sequence of community conversations about the potential of technologies in culture — the options, the problems, the hopes, and the anxieties.” The trouble? Practically all of Zuckerberg’s discussions ended up with fellow white adult men — who have generally dominated the technological innovation market. In the 6 dialogue films Fb posted during the year, eight of Zuckerberg’s nine visitors have been male, and all of them have been white. 7 were professors or doctors — and all but a single have been about the age of 40. The group’s homogeneity speaks to just one of the most significant criticisms of Silicon Valley: That tech is mostly driven and formed by the selections of white males, a fact evident in the worker demographics for practically all major technological know-how firms. Facebook has positioned alone as a leader in the force to diversify the marketplace, and even promised previously this calendar year to double its woman workforce in the upcoming five decades.
