NUR-SULTAN, Kazakhstan – Kazakhstan must curb the COVID-19 pandemic and never resort to spring quarantine, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev mentioned on November 16.
“The second wave of the pandemic will be different in many respects and will take place at a difficult time for the country’s economy. We must take this into account. Today the whole world is faced with the solution of the so-called ‘Covid equation’, which involves not only direct losses of certain industries, but also a delayed effect when unemployment or gaps in training can lead to various negative consequences, including an increase in crime. Therefore, the current task is to curb the pandemic without resorting to spring scenario quarantine,” Tokayev mentioned throughout a videoconference assembly with members of the federal government, leaders of various state our bodies, mayors of cities and areas.
A state of emergency was in power in Kazakhstan from March 16 to May 11. Residents had been allowed to depart their properties to go to the shop, to work, to the pharmacy and hospitals; many workers switched to “remote work”.
