China announces $72 billion tax incentive for electric vehicles

RIYADH: China unveiled on Wednesday a 520 billion yuan ($72.3 billion) package of tax breaks over four years for electric vehicles and other green cars, as it seeks to boost auto sales. Weakening sales growth in the world’s biggest auto market has raised concern over China’s economic growth and while financial support was widely expected after an earlier government pledge to promote the industry, shares in major automakers jumped after the details were released.

Al-Falih: Saudi Arabia Plans More Airlines to Meet Demand

RIYADH: Within months of launching Riyadh Air, Saudi Arabia is exploring the possibility of adding more airlines to its growing aviation sector, revealed a top minister.  In an interview with Al-Arabiya on the sidelines of the ongoing Paris Airshow, Saudi Minister of Investment Khalid Al-Falih said that the Kingdom’s aviation sector is witnessing significant growth, necessitating the country to look at the possibility of introducing more airlines to meet the rising demand.  

“China’s May Industrial Output Up by 3.5%”

BEIJING: China’s economy stumbled in May with industrial output and retail sales growth missing forecasts, adding to expectations that Beijing will need to do more to shore up a shaky post-pandemic recovery. The economic rebound seen earlier this year has lost momentum in the second quarter, prompting China’s central bank to cut some key interest rates this week for the first time in nearly a year, with expectations of more to come.

Saudi Main Index Dips, Parallel Market Soars at Closing Bell

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Tadawul All Share Index slipped slightly on Thursday as it shed 16.89 points, or 0.15 percent, to close at 11,516.14. The total trading turnover of the benchmark index was SR9.25 billion ($2.47 billion), as 89 stocks advanced, while 116 retracted. The Kingdom’s parallel equity market, Nomu, continued its spectacular performance for the third consecutive day as it soared 2,048.72 points, or 8.21 percent, to reach 26,977.60. The MSCI Tadawul Index, however, dropped 0.05 percent to close at 1,518.74.

“Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand: Ticket Sales Exceed 1 Million”

SYDNEY: More than 1 million tickets have been sold for the Women’s World Cup kicking off in Australia and New Zealand next month, with soccer’s international governing body saying the tournament is on track to be the most attended standalone women’s sporting event in history. FIFA President Gianni Infantino issued a statement saying 1,032,884 tickets had been sold up to Friday morning local time in Sydney, surpassing the pre-tournament sales for the 2019 edition in France.

RIYADH: Impressed by the “out-of-the-box” approach of the Saudi government to drive innovation and growth, a top official of an IT firm said his company is keen on partnering with the Kingdom to become part of its success story. In an interview with Arab News, Alain Carpentier, senior vice president of worldwide sales at HPE Aruba Networking, said his company has made significant investments in the Kingdom in the last two years.

“Russian Ruble Gains Slightly Amid New Western Sanctions”

LONDON: The Russian ruble firmed on Friday, pushing back past the level of 80 to the US dollar, helped by higher oil prices but still hampered by reduced foreign currency supply and the latest Western sanctions, according to Reuters. By 11:03 a.m. Saudi time, the ruble was 0.4 percent stronger against the dollar at 79.93, and had gained 0.4 percent to trade at 86.22 versus the euro. It had firmed 0.3 percent against the yuan to 11.37.
