Jeddah to Host Next FIFA Club World Cup

ZURICH: The 2023 Club World Cup will be played in Jeddah, the home city of Saudi champions Al-Ittihad that have signed Karim Benzema, FIFA said Monday. Al-Ittihad will be joined by the six continental club champions — including Champions League winner Manchester City — for the Dec. 12-22 tournament. It will be the last edition in that format before the 32-team version launches in 2025 in the US.

He said this landmark deal could achieve tangible economic benefits and enhance energy security.

Prince Fahd bin Jalawi elected president of Asian Triathlon Federation

The 31st General Assembly of the Asian Triathlon Confederation unanimously elected Prince Fahd bin Jalawi bin Abdulaziz bin Musaed as president for the next four years, the second Saudi sports figure to head the continental Olympic sports federation. The announcement came during the meeting of the General Assembly, which was held on June 23 in Tokyo in the presence of Eng. Ali Maqbool, president of the Saudi Triathlon Federation, and Joud Jamjoom, his deputy, along with 34 heads from Asia Triathlon’s national federations.

Saudi sports support Kingdom’s team at Special Olympics Berlin.

On Saturday night, top figures from Saudi sports attended the launch of the Berlin 2023 Special Olympics in a show of support for the Kingdom’s 130-strong delegation. Saudi Arabia’s largest Special Olympics contingent since the 1995 Games in New Haven, Connecticut, is made up of 85 male and female athletes who will take part in 15 sports. Present at the opening ceremony in the German capital was Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, the Saudi minister of sports and president of the Union of Arab National Olympic Committees, who attended on behalf of King Salman.

Saudi Sports Minister Attends Special Olympics World Games Opening in Berlin

RIYADH: Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, the Saudi minister of sports and president of the Union of Arab National Olympic Committees, attended the opening ceremony of the Special Olympics World Games in Berlin on Saturday — on behalf of KIng Salman — at the city’s Olympic Stadium. German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier officially inaugurated the event, which began with a procession of the participating countries, including Saudi Arabia, followed by a speech delivered by Dr. Timothy Shriver, chairman of the Special Olympics International Board of Directors.

LONDON: Trainer Andrew Balding is hoping Chaldean can notch up another win for Saudi-owned Juddmonte this season at Royal Ascot and continue the work started four decades ago by late founder Prince Khalid bin Abdullah.
