Surgical Supplies Delivered to Seven Hospitals in Khartoum, Sudan

Date:

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has donated surgical supplies to seven hospitals in Khartoum, according to a statement from the organisation. The supplies include antibiotics, anesthesia, sutures, dressings and other items used to treat injured people. The ICRC said that just 20% of health facilities in the city are still functioning. The organisation’s head of delegation in Sudan, Alfonso Verdu Perez, said that getting the supplies to functioning hospitals was a matter of life and death. He also called for hospitals to be given water, electricity and a safe environment for patients and staff. More than 700 people have died and over 5,000 have been injured since fighting broke out on 15 April between rival paramilitary forces and the army.
