“Sudan Conflict Continues as Saudi Arabia and US Call for New Truce Talks”

Saudi Arabia and the US are urging Sudan’s warring generals to resume truce talks as deadly fighting continues into its eighth week. Despite the collapse of ceasefire talks, envoys from Sudan’s regular army and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) remain in Jeddah, according to the Kingdom’s Foreign Ministry. The foreign mediators have called for “the parties to agree to and effectively implement a new ceasefire, with the aim of building to a permanent cessation of hostilities”. Saudi Arabia and the US are committed to the people of Sudan, the statement added. Upwards of 1,800 people have been killed and 1.2 million displaced, with more than 425,000 fleeing abroad.
