Paul Grant, best known for his role as Lando Calrissian in the Star Wars films, passed away at the age of 56 after fainting at a London train station. On Sunday, March 19, Paul’s family decided to turn off his life support. His daughter, Sophie Jayne Grant, expressed her heartbreak and referred to her father as a “legend” in many ways. She stated that he always brought a smile and happiness to everyone’s face and was an avid Arsenal supporter who would go out of his way to help others. He had many roles in life, including that of an actor, parent, and grandfather. He had a special place in his heart not just for his own children but also for Maria’s children, whom he treated as his own.
The cause of Paul Grant’s death has not been disclosed. In an interview with The Sun, his long-term girlfriend Maria Dwyer referred to him as “the love of my life” and “one of the funniest people I know.” She added that without him, the world as we know it will cease to exist.
Paul Grant had a small but significant role as an unnamed Ewok in the 1983 Star Wars film Return of the Jedi. In addition to that film, he had starring roles in the 1985 epic dark fantasy adventure picture Legend and the 1988 high fantasy adventure film Willow, co-starring Val Kilmer. He also played a goblin in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.
Following Paul’s untimely passing, his stepdaughter Stacey created a GoFundMe page to help his family financially. She began the page with the words, “I’m beginning this page as Paul sadly died away yesterday, and I would like to give him the finest send-off he would want.”
Fans and friends paid tribute to Paul on social media. Many people who loved his portrayal of the goblin in the Harry Potter series expressed their sadness at his passing. One fan said that he was a crazy guy but liked him and was a great laugh. Another fan referred to him as a “top Gooner with a passion.”
