There is not any speedy finish in sight to the volcanic eruption that has triggered chaos on the Spanish isle of La Palma because it started a couple of month in the past, the president of the Canary Islands mentioned on Sunday.

Airline Binter mentioned it had cancelled all its flights to La Palma till 1pm (12:00 GMT) on Sunday due to ash from the volcano.

Almost half – 22 out of 38 – of all flights to the island on Sunday have been cancelled, state airport operator Aena mentioned, however the airport there stays open.
