Newcastle United unfazed by Liverpool in Champions League race

Date:

Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe has dismissed the notion that his team is the “hunted” in the race for a top-four finish in the Premier League. Despite Liverpool’s recent run of victories closing the gap to just one point, Howe prefers to see the battle as being between Newcastle and themselves, rather than Liverpool. With their Champions League fate still in their own hands, Howe wants his players to focus on themselves rather than looking over their shoulders. Newcastle can finish no lower than sixth this season, having climbed from relegation troubles 12 months ago to a guaranteed European return. Two home wins against Brighton and Hove Albion and Leicester City would all but secure a top-four place heading to Chelsea on the final day.
