Several drones have been shot down on their way to Moscow, according to regional Governor Andrei Vorobyov. The Russian capital experienced a rare drone attack that caused minor damage to buildings but no casualties, as reported by Moscow’s mayor Sergei Sobyanin. The city’s emergency services are currently on the scene. This is an uncommon occurrence for Moscow, which is located over 1,000km from Ukraine, and has only rarely been targeted by drone attacks since the conflict in Ukraine began. It remains unclear who launched the drones. Some residents of a building on Moscow’s Profsoyuznaya Street in the south of the city were evacuated, and videos posted on social media showed drones being shot down and debris on the ground. Several of Russia’s Telegram messaging channels reported that between four and ten drones were shot down.
