BERLIN (Reuters) – A senior member of Chancellor Angel Merkel’s conservatives has criticised a U.S. conclusion to withdraw about twelve,000 troops from Germany and go its European headquarters to Belgium.
“Instead of strengthening NATO, the troop withdrawal will weaken the alliance,” Norbert Roettgen, chairman of the German parliament’s overseas affairs committee, informed Augsburger Allgemeine newspaper.
“The usefulness of the U.S. military services is not enhanced but lessened, specifically with a look at to Russia and ongoing armed service conflicts in the Center East,” Roettgen additional.
The U.S. armed forces mentioned on Wednesday it would go its headquarters out of Stuttgart, Germany to Belgium, as it outlined broader options to change twelve,000 troops out of Germany on orders from President Donald Trump.
