Kuwait’s Health Care Prize Recognizes Elderly Care, Minister Tells World Health Assembly

Kuwait’s Health Minister, Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi, stated that the Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah Prize for research in health care for the elderly highlights the importance of prioritizing their needs in health programs. Al-Awadhi expressed his appreciation for the elderly and their contributions to society during the award ceremony at the 76th World Health Assembly. The prize is a positive outcome of the constructive cooperation between Kuwait and the World Health Organization over the past six decades. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus praised the winners of the prize for their contributions to improving health and well-being for all. The winners of the prize were Dr. Abla Sibai, the dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at the American University of Beirut, and Dr. Wu Jing, the head of China’s National Center for Chronic and Non-communicable Disease Control and Prevention. Sibai was recognized for her work in developing a national strategy for elderly health in Lebanon and establishing the Arab network on aging and the Center for Geriatric Studies. Jing was awarded for her center’s facility for elderly health and its broad range of activities that promote health for the elderly.
