Japan to Lead G7 Discussions on Pressuring Russia Regarding Ukraine Situation

On Thursday, financial leaders from the G7 nations will meet in Bengaluru, India to discuss measures to pressure Russia into ending the war in Ukraine. Japan’s Finance Minister Shunichi Suzuki stated that support for Ukraine and sanctions against Russia will be the main topics of discussion. The meeting will be chaired by Japan, who is preparing for the G7 summit in Hiroshima in May.

The G7 nations include Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States. Following the G7 meeting, a broader gathering of G20 financial leaders from around the world will also take place in Bengaluru. The G20 will focus on inflation caused by the war, energy and food prices, and support for emerging market economies with debt problems.

The Japanese official expressed hope that the discussions will lead to “significant results that will lead to stable and sustainable global growth”. The G7 and G20 meetings are seen as a crucial step in pressuring Russia to end the war in Ukraine and restoring stability to the global economy.
