The Lebanese ambassador to France, Rami Adwan, is under investigation for rape and assault allegations made by two former embassy employees. French authorities have requested the lifting of his diplomatic immunity to facilitate the work of the French judicial authorities. The Lebanese Foreign Ministry claims that it has not received any French request to lift Adwan’s immunity. Adwan’s lawyer denies all accusations of aggression, claiming that his client had romantic relationships with the two women, punctuated by arguments and breakups. The investigation is based on a complaint filed by a former employee named Ava, who alleges that she was raped in May 2020 in a private apartment belonging to Ambassador Adwan. Another complainant, a 28-year-old Lebanese student named Gabrielle, has also filed a complaint alleging physical assaults. Adwan denies all allegations.
