DAMASCUS: Israeli strikes hit Syria’s Homs on Wednesday, state media said, as the Gaza war fuels tensions across the Middle East.
“SANA correspondent in Homs: Our air defense intercepted hostile targets in the central region,” Syria’s official news agency SANA said.
Syrian state television also reported “an Israeli assault” on central Syria, in the Homs province.
Last week, the United States carried out strikes on Iran-backed groups in Syria and Iraq, killing dozens in retaliation for a deadly attack on its troops in Jordan.
GAZA STRIP, Palestinian Territories: Palestinian militant group Hamas on Tuesday said it “strongly condemns” Argentinian President Javier Milei after he announced plans to move his country’s embassy to Jerusalem.
Hamas said it viewed the move “an infringement of the rights of our Palestinian people to their land, and a violation of the rules of international law, considering Jerusalem as occupied Palestinian land.”
JERUSALEM: Israeli forces have killed dozens of Palestinian gunmen and detained scores in operations throughout the Gaza Strip in the past 24 hours, the military said in a statement on Tuesday, describing southern Khan Younis as a focus of the fighting.
It said around 80 suspects were taken into custody in Khan Younis, including some accused of taking part in the Oct. 7 killing and kidnapping spree in southern Israel by Hamas Islamists that triggered the almost four-month-old Gaza war.
