5 Accused by Lebanon Military Court for Killing UN Peacekeeper

Date:

The UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon has hailed the indictment of five men accused of killing an Irish peacekeeper in December as an “important step towards justice”. The men, who are all allegedly linked to Lebanese group Hezbollah, were formally accused by a military tribunal following a six-month investigation. The indictment was based on evidence from bystanders’ testimonies, audio recordings and video footage from surveillance cameras. One of the accused is in custody, while the other four are at large. The shooting resulted in the death of Seán Rooney and seriously wounded Shane Kearney.
